The Permanent Marxist Majority

Ominously, Tuesday night we found that an electoral majority can be assembled from among of the ultra rich, minorities, cultural liberals, unionized workers, the easily duped young idealists, and women, and that they can be mustered by an eloquent advocate of the compulsory society. Given this president’s dismal record over his first term, this election shows that those who side with an opportunity society are now simply outnumbered.

The radicals of the 1960’s such as the unrepentant terrorist and close confidant to our President, Bill Ayers, long ago embarked on what they called the “long march.” This was their new course to remake America, a march that would lead them away from violent rebellion and into the employ of our media and academic institutions.

In this election, we have witnessed the realization of their long-sought goal. In their decades-long march they have succeeded in gaining seniority status at and becoming the guiding ideological force inside the executive suites of the nation’s most prestigious news organizations and universities. The crown jewels of their movement are Barack Obama and what I call their permanent Marxist majority.

For over 70 years, since the first days of FDR’s administration, it has been the goal of the American left to create for itself more and more dependence on government, to create a large enough coalition of those who either work for or benefit from government, that it cannot ever be defeated electorally because it makes up the majority of voters.

In essence, it has always been the Democratic Left’s plan to achieve one-party rule through class warfare and the unrestrained redistribution of wealth.

What is so appalling is how vacant and destructive are the promises made by the leaders of this movement in 2012. As Margaret Thatcher so famously put it:

“The problem for socialists is that eventually, they run out of other peoples’ money.”

A majority of women voted for Obama despite the fact that female unemployment has risen by double digits during Obama’s first term. A much greater majority of single women voted for him, perhaps substituting the nanny state for a traditional husband. But it seems tragic to consider that thinking American women can be wooed to a party that holds up as one of its standard bearers, Sandra Fluke, a thirty year old law student who demands of her fellow citizens free contraception. She perfectly symbolizes a kind of theater of the absurd which demonstrates that the ideological underpinnings of this new American majority are not only collectivist and anti American but are lacking in rationality.
