I Fear for My Country

Count me among those who fear that the current struggle over whether this nation will allow sanctuary cities to flourish and multiply or abolish them threatens to be the single impetus which will escalate into our second civil war. Illegal sanctuary jurisdictions now number over 500. Under Obama, they were encouraged to spread like a cancer.  Sanctuary policies are not only illegal, they undermine the rule of law, erode U.S. sovereignty, protect international drug cartels that operate in the US, harm US workers and lawful employers, and result in the injury and death of thousands of American citizens.

In the Introduction to my second book, Lessons from Fallen Civilizations, Vol. II, I write,

By the spring of 2016, in the waning months of the Obama Administration,

Americans could not help but sense that their government’s malfeasance had

reached the level of criminality. Appalling figures released by their government

showed that ICE (The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, a division

of the Department of Homeland Security), in the previous year, had released from

US prisons 19,723 criminal illegal aliens, including 208 convicted murderers and

900 convicted sex offenders. Not deported, but released. Criminal illegals were

at large in virtually every US state. This group accounted for 64,197 convictions

and 8,234 violent crimes.

Meanwhile, across America’s unsecured southern border near Juarez and adjacent

to El Paso, Texas, Mexican drug traffickers were helping ISIS terrorists cross

into the country to explore targets for future attacks. Among the jihadists was

a Kuwaiti named Shayk Mahmood Omar Khabir, an ISIS commander who had

trained hundreds of al Qaeda fighters in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Yemen, and

was training thousands of mostly Yemenis and Syrians in a base near Juarez. He

even bragged to an Italian newspaper that the US border was so open that he

could “get in with a handful of men and kill thousands of people in Texas or

Arizona in the space of a few hours.”

Those government officials who are defying immigration laws, are unwittingly creating safe havens for terrorists. Every law-abiding citizen living in American sanctuary jurisdictions should be outraged. My fear is that the forces which control the anti-Trump left will encourage massive civil disobedience that will quickly escalate into violence and tragically could even lead to a new civil war.  This is not what any sane American would want but I now fear for my country.

Larry Kelley’s life was utterly changed by 9/11. On the day after the attacks, on his way to work, he was struck by the sudden realization that World War III had commenced. Like most Americans he desperately wanted to find out who were these people who attacked us, what could ordinary citizens do to join the battle and how can those plotting to kill us in future attacks be defeated. Mr. Kelley has written scores of columns on the dangers of western complacency.
