One week before President Obama proclaimed, “If you’ve got a business—you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” (a statement that we can only hope will live in infamy) Time Magazine devoted nearly an entire issue to the history of the American dream and concluded that it is now ebbing away. In one of the Time essays, The American Dream has seen better days—much better, by Jon Meacham, he begins,
“The perennial conviction that those who work hard and play by the rules will be rewarded with a more comfortable present and a stronger future for their children faces assault from just about every direction.”
No, Mr. Meacham, it is the forward march of American socialism and unfunded entitlement spending that threatens to bankrupt the nation and wreck the American dream. And in the 2010 election of T Party candidates which won back control of the House, we can at least point in the direction of defenders of the American dream. It is not coming from every direction. The assault is coming from your side, from your consortium of big labor, government unionized employees, big education, environmentalists, the mainstream media, and your ever growing vast legions of dependents. But so far you are not the whole of America.
In the next sentence Mr. Meacham, you betray your undying devotion to the shibboleths of the Obama far Left by setting up a straw man as a means to deflect blame from yourselves:
“That great enemy of democratic capitalism, economic inequality is real and growing.”
The viscidities of being lower middle class worker in America are not made worse because Mark Zukerberg has recently become a billionaire. Moreover, it’s absurd to argue against income disparity when moderately wealthy small business owners have long been the engine of job creation. However, the middle class worker’s lot in life will be made worse if he is laid off by the small business owner who finds that the costs of the new healthcare bill will force him to downsize.
In Paul Kengor’s new book, The Communist: Frank Marshall Davis, The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mentor, he reminds us Obama, in his much celebrated book, Dreams from My Father, (very likely ghost written by Bill Ayers) mentions “Frank” 22 times and concedes that he felt a “connection with him that he was unable to find with anyone else.”
Kengor records that Davis was such a well known radical and communist spy that the FBI placed him on the federal government’s Security Index which meant that he could be immediately detained in the event of an outbreak of war with the Soviet Union. Kengor even records Davis’ Communist Party (CPUSA) member number—47544.
What Meacham and the main stream media can’t or don’t want to get is that Barack Obama was gestated in and marinated his whole life in the amniotic fluid of the communist left. Nor do they understand that, central to Marxist dogma, government cannot maintain its grip on its subjects if it has a thriving middle class. Instead, the Marxist must destroy the middle class.
