The Freedom Chronicles
Shortly before our impending war with Islamist Iran, Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave a speech to European leaders for the ages. Delivered before the Munich Security Conference, his address not only elicited a standing ovation, a response unlike any in the audience’s memory, but it also moved Europe toward a resolve to take up arms in its own defense. It caused a monumental reawakening.
In my book, Lessons from Fallen Civilizations, I chronicle the fall of five great societies: the Greek polis, Carthage, Rome, Byzantium, and the Ottoman Empire. In that book, I record that the ancient historian, Thucydides (455 – 401 BC), referred to his city, Athens, as a tragic hero, possessed of greatness yet fatal flaws.
Rubio echoes that timeless historian, “We are part of one civilization – Western civilization. We are bound to one another by the deepest bonds that nations could share, forged by centuries of shared history, Christian faith, culture, heritage, language, ancestry, and the sacrifices our forefathers made together for the common civilization to which we have fallen heir.”
Similarly, in my book, I refer to Western Civilization as my tragic hero, born two and a half millennia ago on the plain of Marathon in 490 BC, who has endured countless threats to his very existence, including two world wars and nuclear annihilation during the 20th century alone.
Rubio said, “…armies do not fight for abstractions…Armies fight for a way of life. And that is what we are defending: a great civilization that has every reason to be proud of its history, confident of its future, and aims to always be the master of its own economic and political destiny.”
He went on to decry the potential loss of our freedoms and our collective sovereignty to mindless, mass migration. “Mass migration is not, was not, isn’t some fringe concern of little consequence. It was and continues to be a crisis which is transforming and destabilizing societies all across the West.”
In Lessons from Fallen Civilizations, I show that Western Civilization was nearly extinguished twice by Muslim armies, once on the Plain of Tours in 732 AD and again at the Battle of Vienna in 1453 AD. Edward Gibbon, perhaps the greatest modern historian of the West, wrote, “If Charles Martel had not won at Tours, the boys of Eaton (in his day) would have been learning their lessons in Arabic.”
Those European potentates in the room who had made public their disgust for President Trump’s negotiating demeanor, withered at Rubio’s most memorable phrase: “…we in America have no interest in being polite and orderly caretakers of the West’s managed decline.” It was a pronouncement for the new history books.
New history books need to be written and issued to high school students from Prague to Los Angeles, which teach our youth about the Muslim conquest of the West, chronicling its 700-year rule of the Iberian Peninsula and its 400-year rule of Greece. It was not until 1830 that the Greeks were free to elect their own leaders and practice a Christian faith. North Africa was once Christian and will never be again. To these truths, the boys and girls of our day need new history books and an awakening.
This brings us to the Muslimists running Iran. Since they came to power in 1979, stormed our embassy and took our diplomats hostage, no other country has killed more Americans. The Pentagon estimates over 600 Americans were killed in the Iraq war, largely due to Iranian-made explosive devices smuggled into the war zone.
The Regime’s dwindling loyalists still chant “death to America!” Its leader, Khamenei, still refers to America as the “Great Satan.” Negotiating a peace agreement with the Mullahs running Iran is clearly a fool’s errand. No one at the Munich Conference believes Trump to be that fool.
As he brings ever more of our naval assets into place, it is apparent that this President is intent on deploying a vast number of our defensive technologies and the maximum firepower.
In 1974, the Algerian President, Houari Boumedian, stated before the United Nations, “One day millions of men will leave the Southern Hemisphere to burst into the Northern one, but not as friends. They will come to conquer… Victory will come from the wombs of our women.”
Today, fifty years later, the mayor of London is Pakistani and a practicing Muslim. And the mayor of New York is a Muslim and a communist. If Donald Trump removes the Islamic Republic and oversees its replacement with a non-Islamist secular government friendly to or allied with the West, it will erase fourteen centuries of barbaric Islamic rule over a much older Persian people, an event of biblical proportions.
