The Freedom Chronicles
vol 10.10.26
Embodied in the person of Mayor Zohran Mamdani and candidate, Abdul El Sayed, America is facing the twin threats posed by what some are labeling the Red-Green Alliance. Each man embodies the twin threats to the West’s survival. Those threats come from Islam and Communism.
Readers of this column know that we focus on freedom, on those struggling to gain or regain their freedom such as people living inside the axis of evil, inside the regimes ruling, China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. Additionally, we focus on those people struggling to retain their freedoms such as the Israelis, the Ukrainians, and us. The struggle is never ending because freedom is always under siege.
Most readers over the age of 50 have some memory of the threat posed by Communism and have some knowledge of the cold war (a gross misnomer when you consider the 36,000 American killed in North Korea, 58,000 in Viet Nam). And we will cover the threats posed by the American embrace of Communism in future columns.
But you ask—how is a religion a threat to the survival of the West? Would that not make other major religions such Hinduism or Buddhism also threats to Western Judeo Christendom? The answer is no. The armies of Allah have always been attempting to conquer the West and in fact, they did conquer two-thirds of Western Christendom., lands which made up the Middle East, North Africa, Spain, Greece and the Balkans. Islam is not simply a religion. Islam is also a culture which glorifies, commands, and sanctifies the brutal conquest of the unbeliever.
The historian, Father Richard Neuhaus, wrote, “Muhammad is the only founder of a major modern religion whose life falls within an era of pedigreed historical inquiry. Islam’s spectacular spread was brought about by brutal military conquest, rapine, spoliation, and slavery. Its culture was derived from the vanquished.”
What Newhouse is referring to here is the fact that, unlike Jesus of Nazareth who lived in a remote corner of the Roman Empire and about whom there are relatively little sources documents, there is no other comparable religious figure’s life so well documented as is the life of Muhammad. Modern historians can paint a fairly accurate portrait of him due to the fact his life was thoroughly recorded in three large bodies of records the Quran, the Hadiths, and the Sira.
The historical record begins with the Quran. Virtually all Muslim chroniclers of the day believed that it was the product of revelations to Muhammad over the twenty-three years of his prophethood, delivered to him by visitations of the Angel Gabriel, and that the verses are literally the word of God.
His followers, who grew to tens of thousands of warriors, the Sahabas, memorized the verses and recited them to each other. When Mohammad died in 632, the first Caliph, Abu Baker, commanded that the verses be compiled in book form.
In the Hadiths, given that the Qur’an is disjointed and obtuse, early chroniclers wrote elaborations which gave context to the verses of the Qur’an. One of them, Muhammad Ibn Ismail al-Bukhari (AD 810-870) travelled the Middle East and collected 300,000 of them. He published about 2,000 which he determined were reliably written by a person close to Muhammad.
The Sira is the biography of Muhammad. The Prophet’s earliest biographer, Muhammad ibn Ishaq ibn Yasar appears to have written a very careful and comprehensive work. Some events may be somewhat fictionalized. To what extent is not known given the fourteen centuries that have elapsed. But as Robert Spencer points out, “Despite the fact that it is not possible to completely separate fact from fiction, what is important to understand the portrait of Muhammad has over the centuries passed into the general consciousness of Muslims.” His is the life of the perfect man, the life by which all others are judged.
So, the misfortune for Muslims and the infidels who live among them, is that much is known about the Prophet and his supremacist anti-Western belief system. As I write in my book, Lessons from Fallen Civilizations,
..consider Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, the “Lockerbie Bomber” who killed 220 innocent non-Muslims over Scotland. When he was repatriated to Libya in 2010, he was met by crowds at the airport and given a hero’s welcome. Ponder the fact that when the images of Americans leaping to their deaths from the burning Trade Center Towers were transmitted to Islamic enclaves from Damascus to Falls Church, Virginia, the Muslims celebrated.
The question is why? What commands a Muslim to take up arms against the West generally, and America specifically? The answer is that he is driven by four powerful motivations:
First—the Koran and other religious texts command that he militarily defend his culture from what he can clearly see as corruption heaped upon Islam by an ubiquitous Western press, internet, commerce, and pop culture.
Second—history. He longs for Islam’s past greatness which Islam absorbed from those it conquered. The Bedouin invaders produced practically no scholars or inventors of their own.
Third—the example of the Prophet who was a ruthless warlord and whose life cannot be judged. Muhammad’s life is the standard by which all others are judged. Islam teaches the Muslim from childhood that the ruthless conquest of the unbeliever (infidel) is blessed and that those who resist are evil.
And finally—Islam attacks the West because, for most of its fourteen centuries, it always has.
I asked Claude to give me a list of Abdul Al-Sayed’s own anti-American remarks. It cautioned me for my being judgmental and issued excuses for him. However, one statement it grudgingly gave is worth considering:
El Sayed has repeatedly called the U.S.-Iran conflict a war that’s “illegal” and “immoral,” and one he says Netanyahu wanted and “finally found” a way to drag the U.S. into — language opponents frame as reflexively blaming America/Israel over Iran.
In this statement, Claude reluctantly exposes this candidate for the United States Senate, the World’s guarantor of Western freedom. It shows that he would allow the world’s most ruthless, most maniacal anti-western Islamist regime to develop nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons in the hands of this Iranian regime would be the greatest tragedy to befall humanity, a tragedy that would befall him, his ilk, and us..
The communistic, Islamist, El Sayed, and his mentor, Mamdani, are also the embodiment of an appalling fact—the barbarians are no longer outside the gate. They are inside and among us.
